Irish Limousin Cattle Show & Sale Saturday May 25th – Report & Photos

Roscommon Sale

Spring sale season came to an end for the Irish Limousin Cattle Society on Saturday 25th of May 2013 at Roscommon Mart. On offer was a large entry of top quality bulls and a small number of very well bred heifers. Prices for the bulls ranged from €1,800 to €4,000, there was a clearance rate of 64% with an average price of €2586, while the heifers peaked at €2,500.

Auctioneer for the sale was Roscommon native, the esteemed George Chandler. Sean Moroney of the Ballykinncurra herd based in Corofin, Clare officiated as Judge for the pre-sale show. Sean has come through as a very reputable Judge from years of taking part in YMA events and has represented Ireland at International Events to great accomplishment.

Observing the sale Paul Sykes, Breed Secretary said: “On offer here in Roscommon was a tremendous line-up of Limousin Genetics. Time and time again Limousin Breeders are supplying the market with the cattle it desires. The catalogue here today has cattle with traits to add to any farming enterprise – our aim as a breed is to set standards not follow them.

Of course we would love to have had a 100% clearance rate, however, this year has been the most difficult on record with farming families having extra financial strains put upon them by the extremely volatile weather conditions, taking this into consideration and with the number of bulls been sold at home, the clearance rate of 64% was, while not ideal, somewhat pleasing.

The Roscommon sale concluded the Irish Limousin Cattle Society spring sales for 2013. The next society sales are as follows:

Premier Bull sale @ Roscrea on 28th October, 2013,

Tullow sale @ Tullow Mart, Carlow on 20th November 2013,

Premier Heifer sale @ Roscrea on 23rd November 2013.

We would like to wish all purchasers at our sales every good fortune with their acquisitions.”
